Bitcoin Poker Freerolls
This article will guide you through all of the various freerolls on offer in the bitcoin poker world. We’ll start with an introduction to freerolls, but if you’re already familiar then skip ahead to the available bitcoin freerolls section further below.
What is a freeroll?
A freeroll is a free-to-enter tournament that has real money prizes up for grabs. Prizes for freeroll tournaments are usually available to the top 1% of players that finish in a tournament, although it can sometimes be higher or lower depending on the poker room’s choice. For example, if 100 people enter a freeroll, the prize may only be awarded to the player that comes first – but considering it’s free, it’s still worth a shot at grabbing some bitcoin!
Benefits of Bitcoin Poker Freerolls
If you’re considering signing up to a bitcoin freeroll then perhaps these points will help to motivate you further.
- Get familiar with the site
- Bag some free bitcoin!
- Easy competition
One major advantage of a freeroll is that you can become familiar with a poker room before depositing real bitcoin. Some poker software can be difficult to use, or features may be missing that you would like to see – so instead of reading lots of reviews online, why not play at the bitcoin poker site first and then decide?
While not all freerolls will offer bitcoin as prize money (some offer loyalty points or physical items), many of them still do! If you’re not into bitcoin mining, and your salary isn’t paid in bitcoin, then getting hold of this great cryptocurrency can be a challenge – a freeroll is a great way for someone to enter the bitcoin world with zero investment.
When it comes to bitcoin poker freerolls, the competition is often the weakest you’ll ever find in poker. A lot of poker players play freerolls purely for fun, and will happily ‘donk’ off all their chips at the start of the game. Bitcoin freerolls rarely contain serious players, so if you’re one of them, and you’re willing to put the time and effort in, then you’re in a good position to take home some winnings!

Freeroll Tournament Strategy
Freerolls require much different strategies to high stakes tournaments. The main difference is that in a high stakes tournament, a number of players may be professionals and may adopt certain ‘meta game’ tactics that are very difficult to read or predict. As a freeroll player, your strategy should be very simple. Here are some key tips for being successful at a bitcoin poker freeroll.
- Tip 1 – Always play position.
- Tip 2 – Never call preflop.
- Tip 3 – Loosen up later on.
- Tip 4 – Play pot odds.
If you’re in a bad position (UTG, UTG+1), the hand range that you’re willing to play should be extremely tight. Many players will even recommend folding AQ when playing from UTG on a 9 or 10 man table. A hand like AJ may seem tempting in any position, but in the early stages of a bitcoin freeroll you should be mucking it immediately. Discipline is key!
A habit of many freeroll players is to simply ‘call’ preflop. If you are playing the hand you should either be raising or calling in position – there is no excuse for ‘limping in’ as this is an easy way to passively chip away at your stack – you’re going to need those chips for the late game!
While the bad players will play loose early on (and so you should play tight), the good players will play tight later on (and so you should play loose). Table control is key towards the end of a tournament; punish players who are unwilling to take risks, and steal those blinds like there is no tomorrow! But remember, you will build a reputation for yourself by playing loose – this can be used to your advantage, but if you loosen up too much, you may find yourself getting caught out.
If you’re not familiar with pot odds then we suggest you do some reading on the subject. To be successful in poker at any level, you must have a good understanding of pot odds. By playing to the pot odds, you are able to give yourself the best ‘long run’ advantage. Don’t be put off by a string of losses, this is common and known as ‘variance’. Rest assured that if you play pot odds consistently, you will find yourself having enormous success in any bitcoin freeroll.
Good luck at the tables!
